Today we ripped off a blogger named and blog named Mignight Murdina of the blog Not All That Wander Are Lost. This meme was meant to be done with one question a day for 7 days. We are bad at following rules. So we will do it in a day! It is stated that it was “ganked” from Karaokegal. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

Bullseye!

Top Chef recap time, y'all!

Padma had some very special guests joining her for the Quickfire Challenge.....Elmo, Cookie Monster & Telly (Monster) from Sesame Street. Hmmmm......not sure if puppets can actually taste food but whatever. For the challenge, the cheftestants had to make COOKIE COOKIE ME WANT COOKIE. So the Muppet gang hated Blais' not really a cookie liquid nitrogen "ice cream" blobs & Angelo's saw dust hazelnut cookies. And the winner of the Quickfire (& 5 grand) was Dale's pseudo cookie of pretzel and potato chip shortbread coated in melted chocolate, basically he smashed some junk food together & combined it w/ butter so the "batter" would stick together. Pretty sneaky, Dale! Though technically you did not bake anything.

For the Elimination Challenge, the cheftestants had to cook a meal in the middle of Target (at 3 am so they wouldn't bother the customers!) using only food and cooking appliances available at Target. SB was dumbfounded that none of the cheftestants went to the camping section to grab some propane camping stove tops. A lot of cheftestants went the soup route, logistically smart, not very creative. And Dale was the big winner w/ his iron cheese steak sandwich & spicy tomato soup. Aw comfort food! And packing it up was Angelo & his poopy baked potato soup. I was a bit surprised but not really. Angelo didn't really seem to have that same fire in his belly that he did on his previous season.

Angelo, you screwed up one of my fave dishes! You suck!

Lazy

No meme today. Instead I'm going to celebrate the awesomeness of the day.

It's Monday & I don't have to go to work. I don't have to deal w/ crisis or being the voice of reason. Nope I stayed in bed until 9am....I wasn't even sleeping, just lazing & occasionally reading and smooching SB.

It snowed last night and I'm not even the teeniest bit anxious about it because I have fuck all to do today.

Personally I think we should institute a 4 day work week...NO MORE MONDAYS NO MORE MONDAYS NO MORE MONDAYS!

Now, who's w/ me?

Since get between 40 and 80 people per week, consider yourself tagged. Whether you tag 8 folks is up to you. Kitty says she was tagged by Enchanted Black. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us atSunday Stealing!

18. What are you doing tomorrow? I don't know

What the Hell am I on about?

I was thinking about this blog. Remember when I used to write about cool stuff? Now I feel like a hack. Fucking hate this time of year!

So a few weeks ago, SB & I went to Stowe, VT. I'm not a skier & for the nearly 7 years that I lived in New England, I never went to Stowe.

We stayed at a cute little A frame w/ some friends that work for the Lake Champlain ferry company. It smelled like mould and looked like it hadn't been decorated since it was built in 1973.

So, the main purpose of journeying to the Green Mountain state was to watch a few of our knuckle headed friends jump into the freezing cold Lake Champlain. My initial thought was "The hell? Why" but after watching groups of people (little kids, fat dudes, etc.) run head first in a frozen lake, I noticed the looks of triumph on their bright red faces. It looked so liberating and fun! So next year, yours truly will be gathering donations and participating in "The Penguin Plunge".

The other highlight of my journey was stopping in at tiny coffee shop. Truly a one woman operation. It's nice to see a small business drive out Dunkin' Donuts! One of the specialities of the house is a "Dirty Chai", an awesome regular chai w/ a shot of espresso in it. Divine!

And speaking of hot drinks, we popped into Lake Champlain Chocolates. So overpriced!!! They could learn a thing or two from Lindt. But I digress. They have a concoction sold there called "Chai & Mighty", a mixture of chai and Mexican hot chocolate. Mix it in w/ some hot milk & a shot of Bailey's and yr in for a treat, my friend.

Maybe my awesomeness will come back soon...

The Quotable Phairhead

I enjoy reading famous quotes. Some of them make me smile, laugh, think and even shed a tear. One of the funniest quotes that I've read recently was by none other than Albert Einstein. "Once you can accept the universe as being something expanding into an infinite nothing which is something, wearing stripes with plaid is easy."

Thursday's Top Ten - What are your Top Ten favorite quotes?

I'm not really a quote person but I do have a few faves

"Though under Earth and throneless now I be, Yet, while I lived, all Earth was under me." C.S. Lewis

"...Tis the wind and nothing more..." Edgar Allen Poe

"The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Mark Twain

"I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond." Mae West

Booger and Fries

Top Chef recap time, y'all!

For the Quickfire Challenge, the cheftestants had to make a non-traditional fondue & they had to judge each other's dishes. Fondue, I am so fond of you! My mother makes all these awesome sauces to go w/ her beef fondue. But she says it's a giant pain the ass, so no fondue for us these days :-( The problem w/ this Quickfire is the judging wasn't a blind taste test. I think that would have been more fair. And at the bottom of the barrel were Tiffany, Fabio & Mike. Fabio made an icky looking blini, it looked like poop. Mike's lamb kabobs were dry. Of course, he acted like a big baby & made a racist comment towards Dale. The big winner of a trip to Napa Valley (no more winning immunity!) was Dale and his phooooooo-ndue. Pho...oh my God...pho....YES YES YES! Easily one of my favourite Vietnamese dishes ever. Blais was boo hooing over his losing out on the Quickfire. Sour grapes, much? No Blais, the other cheftestants aren't "scared" of you. They just didn't like yr chocolate and banana fondue. The exact opposite of what you were supposed to make, remember, non-traditional fondue?

For the Elimination Challenge, the cheftestants stumbled onto Jimmy Fallon's Late Night set. He wanted the cheftestants to make his favourite dishes for his birthday. The cheftestants chose at random. Poor Antonia got the beef tongue. SB & I were chatting & we've come to the conclusion that Jimmy Fallon doesn't eat beef tongue, he just wanted to have a cheftestant squirm under his tyrannical paw. But hey, Jimmy and I have the same exact food dislikes: eggplant, mayo & mushrooms. Kindred spirits! For the most part, the cheftestants performed really well. Carla and her chicken pot (chicken pot chicken pot) pie won. I prefer beef pot pie myself w/ no bottom crust. And packing it up was Fabio and his disgusting ham-booger. Homeboy decided to use ground brisket and short ribs to make the burgers. Ugh! Why? He should have just used traditional ground round or something.

Is it me or is Blais being much more of an ass this season?

Sunny Day

In order to combat my crippling seasonal depression, I've starting taking over the counter Vitamin D.

So far so good, no side effect & I don't feel like going into a coma nor slamming people's faces into belt sanders.

Lovey Dovey

February 14th marks the day of love. For it's Valentine's Day! No matter what story you choose to believe in on how Valentine's day was started there are two things for certain. Candy stores will be packed with husbands buying their wives boxes of chocolates and card shops will be selling out of sweet little massed produced love notes.

I personally have never been a big fan of Valentine's day. I feel it's an unfair day for the thousands of people who don't have loved ones in their lives. So for the single people, let the day not be about who loves you but let it be about the love for yourself. Go buy yourself a box of chocolates, a necklace or a watch and celebrate the love you have for you! ;)

Top Ten things you love or hate about Valentine's day (feel free to mix and match!)

1. It's a stupid made up holiday
2. I think yr fool if you can only tell yr partner how you really you feel on one day of the year.
3. It's a stupid made up holiday propagated by the greeting card industry
4. I can buy my own damn candy thank you very much.
5. SB can surprise me w/ flowers or romance, he doesn't need to be told by the calendar when to do it
6. It's a stupid made up holiday to increase profit margins for FTD Florists
7. Those stupid candy hearts taste like ass

Conversely:

8. We had some great Valentine's Day parties in grade school
9. My mama's homemade heart shaped sugar cookies
10. A reminder that President's Day is coming, 3 day weekend!

That's a Real-a Italiano!

Top Chef recap time!

For the Quickfire, the cheftestants were greeted by Padma and Isaac Mizrahi. He had a cute talk show on the Style Network, not sure if it still exists. Anyway, the cheftesants had to create a dish that was biutiful, all style no taste. Sucking it were Dale and his plate of scraps. Whenever Dale get a bad critique, he acts like he doesn't care. "I don't have to impress Isaac Mizrahi!" Ummm...yeah actually you kinda do, seeing as how he's JUDGING you and all. Plus, Tre's sparse plate of dots & Angelo's vacuum packed pile of puke and he spelled "crocodile" incorrectly. Idiot! The big weiner was Blais and his black ice cream. It reminded of that toy I wanted when I was a kid were you "grow" rocks under water.

For the Elimination Challenge, the judges had to prepare a dish for a small crowd at an excuslive Italian restaurant. They were divided into 3 groups of three by the KNIFE BLOCK O' DOOM for the App, Pasta and Meat courses. Antonia and her simple mussel stew won. Hurray! All the boy cheftestants tore her apart, they didn't even clap for her. Assholes! And packing it up was Tre and his poopy risotto that had too many large cumbersome veggies and not enough cream.

Why is Mike I still here?!

A Small Opening

Last week (and part of this week too because of inclimate weather!) was Restaurant Week here in the Electric City...that's Schenectady not Scranton, PA.

After polling a few peeps and perusing the menus, SB & I decided on checking out Aperitivo. We've never been, mostly because it's flipping expensive! And just for grins and ha-ha's my parents tagged along as well.

The decor was a bit '80's, exposed brick and a long bar. The place was packed! Right off the bat, the hostess didn't acknowledge us, I understand she was on the phone but she could have made eye contact or something.

Sadly for my mother, both the mussels and salmon were unavailable.

For the apps, there was a choice of Caesar salad or warm mozzarella over polenta. I'm a bit meh on Caesar salad because a: it's usually swimming in dressing & b: they used anchovies in it. Blech! I went w/ the polenta which is odd because I don't care for it very much. Well, now I'm completely won over. Guess I never had it prepared correctly.

For our mains, SB & I had the sausage and broccoli rabe pizza. The crust was amazing, thin & crispy, almost like a cracker. It had a great heat from the red pepper flakes as well. So so tasty! My parents had the rigatoni and Gorgonzola. Unfortunately, they let their plates sits and re-fired them because the pasta was completely dried out. I think this had to do w/ a lack of help in the kitchen.

Dessert was apple cranberry crisp, it was a bit dry. SB had the tiramisu, which he inhaled.

All of this for the low low price of $20.11. See you next year Restaurant Week!
