So, I was tooling around Schenectady & I saw a happy group of middle school kids at the playground. Then I felt a great sadness! Those kids don't know a thing about Devo. How could someone skip rope and not being singing "Beautiful World" at the top of their lungs?
Sigh :-( So glad I'm not a kid!

Agreed, but I feel even sorrier that they haven't hear of Kraftwerk.
Sometimes I wish the opposite; I wish I was still young. Much easier times...
EMM: AH! Yr right, some idiot kid probably thinks Kraftwerk is something you buy at Sears Hardware
I teach summer school, and I taught a lesson in sequencing and precision of language in giving directions. I brought props (including chocolate syrup ... not my smartest idea ever) and had students write directions, then I as a "robot" had to follow their directions exactly. I ended up with chocolate syrup saturating my hair, straws on my teeth, pretzels in my nose, and other stuff I won't mention.
In addition to actually getting the point of the lesson (which made me incredibly happy), these kids were laughing like I've never heard them laugh. Tough, sullen, difficult kids who won't say a friendly word a lot of the time were giggling like toddlers. It made me so happy!
I wish I'd thought to have a quality musical soundtrack in the background, though ... ;-)
My children do know about DEVO. I make sure they know all the good stuff from way back. My 10 year old prefers The Clash although his favorite is Foo Fighters.
dijea: yr 10 y/o is already cooler than me!
