As many of you know, I am obsessed w/ Netflix streaming. To my surprise and delight, all 19 episodes of this amazing series were available straight to me while I languish on my comfy couch. I even got SB hooked into it a bit. His major complaint was that Angela was upset w/ someone and also too many people wearing overalls.
Yes, Angela was emotionally over wrought teen but there was a complete and brutal honesty w/ the show. It was real. The characters wore the same clothes all the time and they weren't from some ridiculously expensive designer. They showed lower middle class as it really was & the school was dingy and over budgeted. My favourite part was the music. When was the last time you saw a teen queen loudly singing and dancing to "Blister in the Sun"? Is it possible that most high schoolers have not even heard of Violent Femmes? I don't want to know, the answer will terrify me.
The last time I was so excited by a show was "Freaks and Geeks". Again another powerful look into what life is really like, not that airbrushed idiotic problem of the week shit. Though I do have a soft spot in my heart for "The Facts of Life".
I'm dying for a show to come back and not give me a distorted view of high school.
"My parents keep asking how school was. It's like saying, 'How was that drive-by shooting?' You don't care how it *was*, you're lucky to get out alive."
